A perfect day was the back drop for Round 3 of the Cruzin Magazine Nostalgia Drag Race Series, at Ironbark Raceway. With some 67 entries from as far a field as Toowoomba, Woorim, Logan lea and Rockhampton, along with around 600 spectators, the stage was set for a great days racing.
The South West Drag Racing Association hosted a meet & greet with a BBQ on Saturday night for the visiting racers and their families. This set the relaxed country atmosphere for Sunday's racing.
The well prepared start line provided some spectacular action early on as racers got a feel for the track
Club member Chris Van-Thof performed a full track burn out, in his V8 powered Holden Ute, to entertain the crowd during the drivers briefing.
After 3 rounds of qualifying and with the racing order set, it was down to racing which included wheel standing Front Engine Dragsters, Sling Shots and record breaking Hot Rods.
Both ends of the track record, that was set by Lionel Durre with a 5.48 sec ET at 140.1 mph at the Easter 2003 meeting, were smashed by Psycho Steve. Driving the Junkyard Dog Racing 32 Ford Coupe "EVL 32" he set the new records with a time of 5.07 sec and a speed of 142.8 mph. His team mate Andrew Elvish also won the Hot Rod bracket, defeating Greg Dennis in the final.
