2008 Easter in the Country Festival
23 March, 2008

Once again Roma's Ironbark Raceway had a record number of competitors at its Easter in the Country Festival drag meeting. 114 entrants traveled from Springhill, Bundaberg, St George, Clermont, Brisbane, Ipswich, Longreach, Barcaldine, Wandoan and Orange in NSW to take advantage of the holiday break to burn some rubber.

Speed FM provided facilities to broadcast the commentary on the internet. They also had a webcam pointed at the track from inside the control tower. It was reported that listeners/viewers were coming from as far afield as Germany, Sweden, Ireland, United Kingdom, Ukraine, Finland and the USA. http://www.speedfm.com.au/ regularly covers major ANDRA meetings and this was the first time that they have ventured to Roma.

The Open Bike bracket seems to be won by the same person for two years in a row. Warren Dunn won it in 2005 and 2006. He lost the final last year to Colin Crane. Colin repeated with another win in the D & R Motorcyles Open Bike bracket this year, defeating Ian Boswood in the final.

The most unusual car to compete was a matt black Rolls Royce complete with flames paint job, nitrous oxide bottle and a rear wing.

Jordon Jones, a new Junior Dragster driver, received the Encouragement Award.

Wayne Binding Transport sponsored the Best Backup Girl award, which was taken out by Rodney Black from Wandoan.

Chris van'tHof was back in his Camaro. He repeated his effort of last year and once again broke the track record for non supercharged sedans, this time with a 5.52 pass. Chris received the Bob Godfrey Memorial Trophy for Lowest Sedan ET of the day and also took out the Fastest Speed award.

The Toowomba drag racers once again challenged the local Roma racers to a Chicago Shootout. After three rounds of racing, the Toowoomba team reversed last years result taking out the win.
