The 2009 Outback Shootout turned into the Johnson family benefit, with the family winning three out of five brackets and also scoring a runner up. In Junior Dragster, daughter Tori cut her first perfect .000 light. She then broke out in the final with a 13.104 on a 13.15, but took the win as her brother Clay redlighted away a 9.182 on a 9 dial in. Tori had an 0.046 reaction time in the final and that was the best RT of the finals.

In Street Eliminator, father Danny borrowed Debra Van'thof's V6 powered Gemini, as Debra had to work and Danny is still working on his next car. There must be something about this car as Debra won round 6 of the track championship and scored a runner up at the round 7 meeting, in it. Dannys finals opponent, Robert Webb, also redlighted. Danny took the win with a 9.282 on a 9.25 DI from Roberts 8.934 on a 8.9.

Danny's wife Sonya won the Bike bracket on her Harley Sportster. She won with an 8.685 on a 8.5 DI over a breaking out Colin Seawright with a 6.155 on a 6.2 DI. It is believed to be the first time that one family has won three brackets at the same meeting anywhere in Australia.

The final of Super Sedan was between John Douyere and Jerome Miller. John redlighted with a -0.273 RT and Jerome did similar with a -0.204 leave. Fortunately for John he had a one second handicap and that meant that Jeromes redlight happened first. John took the win with a 6.81 on a 6.7 over Jeromes 7.835 on a 7.7.

The Modified final was between Laurie Fitzgerald and Shane Mohr. Shane took the win with a 6.513 on a 6.49, from Laurie's 5.9 on a 5.8 DI.
