A beautiful winters day and a terrific afternoon of drag racing and crazy burnouts. Technical issues reared their ugly head again and we weren't able to start on time, but the burnout guys provided the entertainment while Paul and Tanya Winkle rectified the problem. A big thankyou to all the volunteers and especially to Sheree Ivory and her efforts in the tower.
A somber moment for all in attendance when the club acknowledged the passing of Life Member and all round wonderful bloke Laurie Fitzgerald with a minutes silence. Garth and Dianne were able to bring one of Laurie's cars to the track for one final pass and club officials and fellow drivers wore a black arm bands with Laurie's race numbers attached. A beautiful moment and a huge mark of respect for Laurie who supported Ironbark Raceway in so many ways and who will be dearly missed.
In the Burnout competition the usual carnage came to the fore with a couple of cars unable to finish with major coolant issues and a beautiful HQ GTS actually catching fire, officials were quick on the scene and got things under control without too much damage. David Wilkinson was the winner with Travis Weaver runner up.
Best Reaction time was Michael Smith with 0.014.
In the Bikes class there were only four entrants with Paul Welsh who travelled from MillBank near Bundaberg and local Michael Smith battled it out in the final with Paul taking the honors.
In the 4x4 class Caitlin Williamson and Thomas Pascoe found themselves on the start line in the final but Caitlin would prove to be to good getting over the line in her trusty Nissan Patrol.
In the Street class there was some very consistent competitors all afternoon and the finals could have had any number of racers on the start line, but it would be Larry Hafemeister in his Chev pickup and Emerald competitor Hayes Charlton battling it out. Hayes proved to be to good taking the win in a very close pass.
In the Fast Street class which was also tightly contested with some very good quality cars in attendance. Local competitor Damo McHugh in his trusty Commodore ute and Raceview racer Fred Kingdom in his amazing Maloo ute made it into the finals. Unfortunately Fred had mechanical issues and wasn't able to make the pass giving Damo a solo pass and the win.
In the Quick Et class there were only two competitors Andrew March from Glen Innes and local competitor Shane Mohr who had consistent mechanical issues with his topilino and was unable to make a pass so giving Andrew the win. I guess a win is a win however you get it.
Winners.
