Round Five of the Taylor's Parts Track Championship took place on Saturday and a very successful meeting it was. Nominations were dominated by the Street, Bikes and 4x4 classes with Fast Street and Quick Et classes having limited numbers. Burnout entries were up with eight competitors taking the pad. A big thank you to all the hard working volunteers who really do a terrific job in keeping the action flowing. Crowd numbers were really pleasing with an abundance of families in attendance. I also have to mention the monthly meeting sponsor which was Robert and Donna Nugent at Bakearoma.
It was great to see Russell Grulke from Brother Rubber Racing finally get his XA Falcon hardtop to the track for a long awaited hit out. It was a fairly subdued outing, but that was expected as he is still getting the feel for the car. Dennis Hurle had transmission problems unfortunately, which further reduced the competitors in the Fast Street Class. In the burnout competition there was the usual carnage with plenty of coolant and oil spilled onto the pad. Most competitors made it through the four rounds and I have to say that David Wilkinson does well to drive his car to the track, compete in the Burnouts and then drive home.
In the burnout competition the judges had their work cut out in determining a winner, but local lad Heath Waugh in his trusty Au Falcon getting the gong with David Wilkinson runner up.
Best Reaction time with .002 seconds went to Takeisha Clifford. Great to see the girls getting in on the honors.
In the Bikes class veteran Steve Dillon on his Fat Boy and Harley McDonald battled it out, but Harley was too good taking the honors.
In the 4x4 class siblings Jett and Caitlin Williamson found the selves on the start line. Jett wasn't letting his sister get the better of him this time and managed to get the win in a very close encounter.
In the Street class two local competitors Darcy Nichols and Byron Hafemeister would battle it out. Byron was runner up at the last meeting but went one better this time taking the flag in a close affair.
In the Fast Street class there were only three competitors left after Dennis had gearbox problems. Ipswich competitor Fred Kingdom and St George competitor Mick Tattam who both have immaculate cars would be chasing the honors. Fred Kingdom finally was able to get the win with a speed of 97.5 MPH which was one better than the last meeting where he only managed runner up.
